leicester city bet win league - win
People that bet on massive underdogs that won (Buster Doglas 42/1 to beat Mike Tyson, Leicester City 5,000/1 to win Premier League, etc.).... Tell us a bit about it. What made you bet something noone else saw? Were you just a fan of them? Did you often bet on underdogs or was it a one off?

The 3rd Place Team (or worse) After 20 Games Has Never Won the Prem
History says the league title will be coming back to Manchester (Manchester City and Manchester United are both top 2 after 20 games). History says no league title for Liverpool, Leicester, Spurs or the rest.
Betting market odds of winning the league: 70% City 10% Liverpool 8% United 4% Leicester 4% Spurs
The 7th place team (or worse) after 20 games has never made top 4. History says no Champions league place for Chelsea.
The 12th place team (or better) after 20 games has never been relegated. History says no relegation for Leeds.

Ten Talking Points as we have a normal week for once in the form of GW20!
I’m back! I did this just before the Free Hit week and you all seemed to enjoy it and get some value out of it, so why not go for it again. If you're wary of listening to some reddit rando, while it doesn’t match the big FPL names out there, I can say that I'm currently Top 150k and was Top 130k last year.
1. How far will Newcastle fall?
Let’s face it, outside of Callum Wilson, nobody has been looking at Newcastle assets for quite a while now, and it’s not hard to see why - terrible results, shipping plenty of goals, highest xG conceded. In their last 6 games, they’ve scored once. In many ways, they have become the ‘team to target’ - you can have a fair guess that they are unlikely to score, and that they will ship a couple of goals. So if you’re looking to navigate this turbulent period, a player with Newcastle on the schedule is a tick in the box for me. This might include the likes of Dallas & Bamford (Leeds), Digne (Everton) and Zaha/Mitchell/Eze (Palace).
2. As the season progresses, more teams are on the ‘Do Not Buy’ list
As the winter fixtures wrap up, we’ve seen a little bit of a sharpening on which teams have entered truly ‘avoid’ levels. This is useful because in some ways it can tell you what teams to target fixtures against, but can also narrow your choices down. Players can outweigh being on a bad team, but it’s rare and never a guarantee. The most obvious candidates are SHU and WBA. Both can barely keep a clean sheet, and don't have players who score consistently and although WBA have shown signs of life, I am unconvinced. Newcastle we’ve just discussed, and Burnley are scoring way too few and not making enough clean sheets to justify - although somewhat counter-intuitively, Nick Pope is getting enough save points to not be entirely ruled out. Lastly, I might suggest Wolves are a bit of a struggle to justify right now. It feels like the team rotates a fair amount and there’s not many players consistently finding points.
3. A good forward is hard to find
This might just be me, but choosing forward this year has been one of the hardest parts of the game.Only 5 forwards make the Top 30 returning players so far this season, but one is injured (Vardy), two are in a slight dip (Bamford, DCL) and one is way out of form (Wilson). This leaves Harry Kane alone as the only ‘safe’ pick at the moment, while every other striker has question marks. Will Bamford and Wilson find form? How is DCL post-injury? Beyond this, where can we look? Ollie Watkins is one option, coming off a recent scoring performance and is still underperforming xG, in a Villa team that has games to catch-up on and is reliable - he’s played a full 90 week in, week out. Michail Antonio looks to have cleared injury concerns and has 2 goals from his last two starts and seems to be in his pre-injury groove. Also lurking as potential options are a back from injury Danny Ings, depending on if he returns to form immediately.
4. Leicester are one of the form teams, so who are the options?
Brendan Rogers is doing good stuff again. No losses in 6, wins against Spurs, Southampton and Chelsea and up to third, there’s plenty to like about what’s going on here. Many are talking about Barnes and Maddison. The latter, I have reservations about - 3 goals in 3 is nothing to sniff at, but that feels quite unsustainable and he’d been unexciting beforehand. Barnes is more interesting - since returning he’s been putting up similar numbers, but has a historic track record of strong assists. There is also the looming cloud that with Vardy injured, will the goals simply dry up, and defenders are a better option?
If so, Justin is still a good option at 5.0, given the regularity of clean sheets and his ability to get attacking returns - although as we’ve heard all season, Pereira may be lurking to take his spot (I’d be surprised, though.) If you’re really worried about Justin, you might want to look at Castagne- he’s back from injury and its notable that of the 7 Leicester clean sheets this season, he played in 4 of them, and he can get forward. Lastly, its worth monitoring Youri Tielemans - just as a watchlist prospect for now, though.
5. Do you triple up Man City - and if so, how?
They’re the form team of the league, back in the groove and have a defence that seems impenetrable, and have games in hand to catch up on. At this point, not actively looking to on-board MCI players seems like an error, but there’s many routes to go down here.
Let’s start with defense. Stones seems a great choice as he looks to have sealed his starting spot for the foreseeable, and is the cheapest of the three. He does get up at corners, as we well know. Cancelo has been maddening as it feels like he should get more attacking returns then he does; but ultimately, when he’s getting clean sheets as is, the potential of returns is enough to give him the nod too. There’s nothing wrong with Dias - he’s an ever-present, but compared to the other two, his cost and lack of attacking returns means for me, he’s third on the list. Triple defense is an option, but very risky. I’d almost never triple defense, as while the rewards are high, a single goal can really wreck a gameweek for you. Additionally, if an MCI game was postponed, you’re then guaranteed to have a single 0-score player.
So what about elsewhere, especially with a long-term injury to Kevin de Bruyne?. Firstly is the ‘premium swap’ in which you take KdB out and put Raheem Sterling in. Sterling’s a little maligned around these parts, but he has 6 returns in 8 starts - and he’s still a Top 10 Midfielder for points return and only 9 pts behind De Bruyne. Ilkay Gundogan has 5 goals in 7 at the low low price of 5.5m and could be on pens. Lastly, there’s Phil Foden. Clearly a quality player and in a bit of form - and could find himself in the KdB role for the next few weeks, but it’s not a given as Pep is prone to yanking him out of the first XI.
6. Premium assets are a little shaky. There’s a few ways to respond.
So it feels like a lot of the ‘safe bet’ players in the game are either out of form or injured. It feels as if only Bruno Fernandes and Harry Kane are the double-digit priced players who’ve shone throughout the chaotic festive fixtures which puts us all in an interesting spot - where to splash the cash, if at all?
Firstly, I don’t think you can go too wrong with Harry Kane. Consistent strikers are rare this season as discussed, and Kane has 23 attacking returns in 18 games. He does have some difficult games upcoming (LIV, MCI) but it's interspersed with the likes of BHA and WBA. I also think Bruno is still more than reliable, given his consistent returns and that Man Utd are in a title race, resting him will be infrequent, if ever. While there are concerns about Pogba detracting from what he offers, he’s still easily the beating heart of that attack.
A couple other considerations if you want to stay expensive are Sterling as mentioned in the MCI section, while Son is also an option - he’s in a slight rut returns wise, but he’s still getting chances, with good underlying numbers and as we’ve seen, he can return even in the most difficult fixtures. In the long-term, Spurs still have fixtures to catch-up on, too.
Alternately, you can take the approach of upgrading across the board. Take an example of de Bruyne to Gundogan - that puts £6.4m in the bank. That’s a whole Patrick Bamford worth of value! This could enable you to turn your Anguissa’s into Grealish’s or Brewster’s into Antonio’s. You don’t lose anything by not spending £100m on the team all the time. Having funds spare gives you the flexibility to adapt if someone like Aubameyang finds his rhythm again.
7.Time to take stock of your chips
This has been a wild few weeks, possibly unlike anything we’ve seen in years. At this point you may find yourself down to very few chips, or you could have all of them. While you might not need to deploy any just yet, it’s already worth casting an eye to when you might need to, as the likes of Spurs, Man City, Everton and Villa have games to catch-up on due to recent weeks. It is also shaping up at GW26 will have a few doubles too.
We discussed MCI earlier, and Spurs - they have potential double gameweeks to cash in on, and the ever-amazing Ben Crellin indicates GW24 & GW26 are prevalent here - if you prepare for these with FT’s, you could find a potential BB plan here. Triple Captain is also a potential one - Spurs could have a Burnley/Fulham double for example. As Crellin has highlighted, we should know more in GW24 about the rescheduled fixtures, but we can have a fair estimation of the teams involved. This could be a good moment to wildcard too, as players return or rediscover form. In essence, my take away for you here is - follow Ben Crellin and always have a plan.
8. Villa are back, and that’s exciting.
The COVID outbreak is over, and after a three week break from FPL, two games showed us a lot to like - they pushed MCI pretty hard and were in cruise control versus NEW. That combined with a decent run of fixtures and the possibility of DGW’s put Villa right on the radar. Right at the top of that list is Jack Grealish. I don’t think we need a deep dive into why given his return this year, but an assist right off the bat underscores it. Ollie Watkins got one against Newcastle (with another disallowed) and has always had the potential to break out, particularly with the limited striking options highlighted before. It’s also worth remembering that Villa have defenders who can generate the odd clean sheet with attacking returns (Konsa, Mings, Targett). There might be better options right now, but they are all watchlist-worthy. I’ll also be keeping an eye on Ross Barkley - he was pretty productive pre-injury (5 starts, 3 attacking returns) and given his track record, is worth monitoring.
9.Are Fulham becoming a value team at the bottom of the league?
Scott Parker has started getting something right at Fulham, who don’t look like a total disaster any more. In the last ten games or so they’ve beaten Leicester and gotten draws out of Liverpool, Spurs and Southampton, while only losing to Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea, shipping just ten goals and being creditable in many of those games. The back-line is more solid and they have creative players in midfield who are let down by poor finishers. With most of the team in the 4-5m range, you could find some solid squad/bench players. Interesting options are Lookman (5.0), Cavaliero (5.3 and playing an advanced role), Anguissa (4.5, at the heart of much of what they do). Picking up players from teams in a relegation battle is always dicey, but if you’re looking for a cheap enablereliable bencher, I would say Fulham is worth a look.
10.Will Chelsea get the new manager halo?
Lamps is out, Tuchel is in. My eyes are certainly turning towards Stamford Bridge, given we’ve seen Chelsea assets all across the pitch show us a lot to like earlier this season, ranging from Chilwell/James/Zouma at the back, all the way to Ziyech and Abraham up top. You have to imagine given all the reports, he’ll be charged with getting Kai Havertz and Timo Werner firing - and given the sheer strength of Chelsea’s attacking options, we should all pay attention if he does - there’s a lot of low-owned players who could deliver big. The next four games feature WOL, BUR, SHU and NEW, as added incentive.
